Parasite

“If I had all this I would be kinder.”

Amazing — the hype is real; Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite is a masterpiece: tense, funny, abhorrent, aspirational, violent, and sweet, it’s not a film that you can put your finger on and is all the better for it; see immediately.

“We’re monitoring a suspicious individual to figure out if he has any money he doesn’t need.”

Less engaging that Zoller’s previous two films and far more performative, Dragged makes up for it with a beautiful mastery of language, interesting casting choices, and great pacing; worth catching.

“It’s alright. Charlie, you’re alright, now. You… are Paimon.”

A dense story, and eerily built such that once the reveal happens it changes everything that’s happened so far, colouring it with a demonic bent that’s so brilliant and hard to forget.

“We have real confidence in the mission, and there are some risks, but we have every intention of coming back.”

Beautifully directed, and for such an epic journey, incredibly intimate; it’s not a blockbuster, but a very entertaining film about the first man to step on the Moon.

“I created so many of the things you care about – the songs that give your life purpose and joy. When you were 15 and rebelling, you were rebelling to my music… That song was not written on distorted guitar. I wrote it. Here. Somewhere between a blowjob and an omelette. There is no rebellion, there is only me earning a pay-check.”

A wild blend of noir tropes and surrealism, this feels like a masterpiece that will take years to fully decode — incredibly divisive, either leaving you on the outside looking in or inside not knowing what’s going on but entranced never-the-less.
