Cosmopolis

Cosmopolis Title Card

Cosmopolis Still

“The more visionary the idea, the more people it leaves behind.”

A story about a billionaire going to get his haircut and the stops he makes along the way; incredibly close to the book, it retains all the perfectly quotable lines (“Murder is the logical extension of business” and so on – IMDB) though it may not be all that accessible to those who aren’t into Don Delilo-speak.

“Once more into the fray. Into the last good fight I’ll ever know. Live and die on this day. Live and die on this day.”

A severely underrated film, don’t expect Liam Neeson to be bare-knuckle brawling wolves as the trailer depicts, it’s a bleak meditation on death, and the scene near the end where one of the leads accepts his fate is one I think about regularly years later.

“I’ll open up your meat shirt so I can show you your heart.”

Garbage; watched it for Ronda, but even she was given little to do.

“How will you die, Joan Wilder? Slow, like a snail? Or fast, like a shooting star?”

A tongue-in-cheek Indiana Jones themed cash in, a lot of fun, and solid performances from Turner and Douglas, and Devito is as wacky as ever.

John Wick

John Wick Still

“In a bar, I once saw him kill three men… with a pencil.”

Stylish and oozy, it’s great to see Keanu kick arse again — especially when enemies are dispatched as fast as possible with realistic brutality — but it’s overhyped; a film that doesn’t quite live up to expectations but is never-the-less really, really, fun to watch.
