“I’m here to keep you safe, Sam. I want to help you.”

An old-school sci-fi film, one that’s more interested in the psychology and questions surrounding it, leaving the tech to be a backdrop (as it should be); an interesting and thought-provoking film.

“I need your help. I can’t tell you what it is, you can never ask me about it later, and we’re gonna hurt some people.”

A solid action movie that’s blended with just enough high-key drama to make it stick the landing as a considered and thoughtful heist film; people like to bag on Affleck for some bad choices early in his career, but he’s a fine actor and an even better director and proves it here.

“Billy, of the 20,000 notable players for us to consider, I believe that there is a championship team of twenty-five people that we can afford, because everyone else in baseball undervalues them.”

An important economics lesson wrapped up in a rousing sports movie — though there’s very little baseball at all in the movie — Sorkin’s script really gives Pitt and Hill something to work with and wow do they pop; maybe my favourite sports movie.

“Drop the ‘The.’ Just ‘Facebook.’ It’s cleaner.”

An Aaron Sorkin script, Fincher directing, and a Trent Reznor soundtrack?  This movie was made for me — it’s questionable how close to reality it comes, but it really doesn’t matter when it’s this good.

“If you want to be president, you can start a war, you can lie, you can cheat, you can bankrupt the country, but you can’t fuck the interns. They’ll get you for that.”

A gripping and confidently directed thriller about a presidential candidate and his advisors, their strategies and loyalties; a less cynical but just as compelling House of Cards with an even better cast.
