“Cleanse them. Cleanse the world of their ignorance and sin. Bathe them in the crimson of… Am I on speakerphone?!”

A magnificent take on the horror genre, it’ll twist you in circles, make you question reality, and wrap everything up beautifully — perfectly popcorn.

“If we catch John Doe and he turns out to be the devil, I mean if he’s Satan himself, that might live up to our expectations, but he’s not the devil. He’s just a man.”

Fincher’s grottiest film — still beautiful and composed, but with all the grime of the New York City underworld in every frame — it’s dark and brooding, one of the best serial killer films that throws some serious gut punches.

“Anybody wanna waste some time?”

A chilling and well made film about strong addictions and weak wills, one of the movies you’ll probably only ever watch once, at least until you forget how fucking bleak it is, then you’ll marvel at the creative direction and performances and tell yourself you’ll never watch it again — until you do.

“It’s not who you are underneath, it’s what you do that defines you.”

A fun film, dark and efficiently told, Batman’s a great character so I’m glad he got a good movie treatment, but like all of Nolan’s films, I think the idea trumped the execution — it already feels a little dated ten years on.

“Freedom? You’d better flush out your head, new guy. This isn’t about freedom; this is a slaughter.”

The movie that convinced me Kubrick was a true genius, this is a harrowing story of marine recruits during the Vietnam war; terrifying at point, lighthearted in others, the unease is compounded significantly by juxtaposing upbeat music of the 60s with the destruction, and has a dozen images I’ll never get out of my head.
