The Wrestler

The Wrestler Title Card

The Wrestler Still

“The only place I get hurt is out there. The world don’t give a shit about me.”

A look at the ugly underground wrestling circuit and the incredibly heavy toll it has on one individual and how he interacts with the world.

Wall-E

Wall-E Title Card

Wall-E Still

“Wall-E”

An overrated but sweet and gorgeous tale of a trash compactor that re-colonises Earth.

No Country For Old Men

No Country For Old Men Title Card

No Country For Old Men Still

“Whatcha got ain’t nothin new. This country’s hard on people, you can’t stop what’s coming, it ain’t all waiting on you. That’s vanity.”

Another Coen brothers masterpiece, Bardem is hypnotic and engaging whilst being utterly terrifying in this Texan tale of the human condition and keeps the tension from start to finish.

★★★★★

Capote

Capote Title Card

Capote Still

“More tears are shed over answered prayers than unanswered ones.”

Extremely well acted, Hoffman turns in an incredibly performance completely becoming Truman Capote as convincingly as any performance Daniel Day-Lewis is given credit for — a subtle and thoughtful film that earns it’s awards and nominations.

★★★★✩

Robin Hood

Robin Hood (1973) Title Card

Robin Hood (1973) Still

“Ah, but remember faint hearts never won fair lady. Fear not, my friends.”

A classic — I grew up with this film, and it never fails to bring about a smile.  Whimsical, optimistic, and sometimes very dark, great early Disney.
