Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs Still

“Musicians play their instruments. I play the orchestra.”

There’s no title card in this film, no break, no relenting, for a movie that consists of two (to three) people talking in a room at any one time, it bustles along like a rollercoaster — a testament to Sorkin’s exquisite writing.

Aladdin

Aladdin Still

“Say, you’re a lot smaller than my last master. Either that, or I’m getting bigger. Look at me from the side. Do I look different to you?”

This was a favourite movie of mine as a kid, it still holds up twenty years later — fantastic writing, direction, the songs are still incredible, Robin Williams is iconic as Genie and Gilbert Gottfried is so damn perfect as Iago.

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring Still

“One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its Black Gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep, and the Great Eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust, the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this.”

Make-em-up that is vast and expansive and feels part of a ‘real’ world, an exciting tale that suffers a little due to some of the fantastical elements.

Ted

Ted Title Card

Ted Still

“No matter how big a splash you make in this world whether you’re Corey Feldman, Frankie Muniz, Justin Bieber or a talking teddy bear, eventually, nobody gives a shit.”

Incredibly funny only 10% of the time, which just isn’t really enough to carry a comedy from these calibre of people.

Zombieland

Zombieland Title Card

Zombieland Still

“The first rule of Zombieland: Cardio. When the zombie outbreak first hit, the first to go, for obvious reasons… were the fatties.”

A special film, perfectly placed at the right time, with the right cast (and cameos), just as everyone thought they were getting tired of zombies on their screens this came out of left field and blow everyone away — a funny, exciting, and emotional film that might live on in the same way Groundhog Day has.
