Charlie Wilson’s War

Charlie Wilson's War Still

“These things happened. They were glorious and they changed the world… and then we fucked up the endgame.”

Another great Sorkin script, and his first to be based on a book, with all the same sharp and witty dialogue you’d expect; it’s both funny and informative as it’s characters are utterly hypnotising, but never really hits it out of the park

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

“Show me again the power of the darkness, and I’ll let nothing stand in our way. Show me, grandfather, and I will finish what you started.”

The first Star Wars movie to make me understand the hype, the others are hot garbage in comparison to this — everything about the film is done on an unprecedented scale, and despite a few completely unnecessary and cringe-inducing throwbacks it’s a spectacular film (Daisy Ridley is in particular awesome, as is they way they subvert the normative saviour/damsel gender roles).

“I know there’s things you cannot tell people. But I also know there’s a story here people will hear about it.”

A pretty thrilling movie that consists of reporters digging for information — the way it’s put together is more exciting and ‘edge-of-your-seat’ than many action blockbusters while also subtle and mature, deservedly won two Oscars.

“Sometimes I truly fear that I… am losing my mind. And if I did it… it would be like flying blind.”

Howard Hughes is such an inspirational character — the Elon Musk of the early 20th century — an inventor, movie director, and so much more, that a biopic couldn’t be uninteresting, though this three hour slog occasionally feels it’s length; a fascinating depiction of a genius spiralling.

“I think we’re just gonna to have to be secretly in love with each other and leave it at that, Richie.”

One of Anderson’s better films, a tender story about depression, dying, and oddly incest — is well written and beautifully directed.
