Frequencies

Frequencies Title Card

Frequencies Still

An interesting English sci-fi romance, Darren Fisher creates an alternate reality completely sold by the story instead of flashy visual effects, it has a fascinating concept (does free-will or fate determine our destiny) and is worth watching because of it, but is let down by the budget and some odd shot composition.

American Psycho Still

I’m into, uh, murders and executions mostly, so this dark and twisted adaption was delightful — now please excuse me, I have a table at Dorsia.

Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

Ocean's Eleven Title Card

Ocean's Eleven Still

A thoroughly enjoyable heist movie, that looks like it was fun for everyone involved (including the audience), with an exceptionally cool cast and stylish direction.

Only God Forgives

Only God Forgives Still

The much anticipated follow-up collaboration between Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling was, by all accounts, a clusterfuck behind the scenes, but that didn’t stop it from being a nicely shot and engrossing movie even if it is totally incoherent.

I, Origins

I, Origins Title Card

I, Origins Still

Another original science-fiction script from Cahill and Marling, it hits notes similar to their previous collaboration Another Earth around wonder, curiosity, and discovery, and asks some thought-provoking questions around science and spirituality.
