Inception

“An idea. Resilient… highly contagious. Once an idea has taken hold of the brain it’s almost impossible to eradicate.”

It’s a really solid film, that breaks apart a little under close scrutiny, but it’s fun to theorise about the ending (hint: it’s not his totem — it was Mal’s, Cobb got it in their shared dream).

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

“What a loss to spend that much time with someone, only to find out that she’s a stranger.”

Weird and sensational, it’s emotive and empathetic, it feels less cinematic and instead like a bittersweet emotion that plays out on a screen.

“Rather than just sit here, feeling sorry for myself or whatever, I’ll get on with it and I’ll die on the way down.”

My first documentary review courtesy of trying to find films with snow in to coincide with my skiing holiday, Touching the Void is a gripping story of two climbers who climb a never-before summited peak in Peru and who almost don’t make it back.

Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back

“I love you.” “I know.”

Significantly better than A New Hope, and far better directed and acted; it’s great to look at too when the rugged special effects aren’t dating the movie.

James Bond: The Spy Who Loved Me

“Then how about a nightcap on the company? My company.”

Laughably bad, it’s almost a parody combining the silliest parts of the James Bond films into one — albeit with some iconic shots that are recreated later — terrible green screen and fake skiing, the chases and action are pretty lacklustre in 2016.
