“At 600KM above planet Earth the temperature fluctuates between +258 and -148 degrees Fahrenheit. There is nothing to carry sound. No air pressure. No oxygen. Life in space is impossible.”

Pretty visually spectacular, tense throughout and well acted by Bullock and Clooney, it’s a technical marvel and worth seeing on as big a screen as you can find.

“That’s the problem with heartbreak, to you it’s like an atomic bomb and to the world it’s just really cliche, because in the end we all have the same experience.”

Smart, emotionally complex, and feels so much like real life thanks to the dialogue being mostly improvised; an incredible film that hits close to home.

“Well, I think being shy basically means being self-absorbed to the extent that it makes it difficult to be around other people.”

So bittersweet, funny yet melancholic — it’s especially crushing because I’d read and greatly admired Wallace’s work, I teared up a couple of times during the movie:  it’s profound and lasting, and made me pick up his essays again.

“If it was never new, and it never gets old, then it’s a folk song.”

Another Cohen brothers masterpiece, it’s last scene threw me through a loop; impeccably acted, shot, and written, with one of the best soundtracks ever.

“You know, I know the world’s supposed to be round, but I’m not so sure about this part.”

A beautiful and literary horror-Western that doesn’t really meander from it’s plodding directive although there are plenty of tense action scenes, the language is wonderful as are the performances, even more impressive it was all captured by a first-time director.
