The Lost Boys

The Lost Boys Title Card

The Lost Boys Still

“Maggots, Michael. You’re eating maggots. How do they taste?”

Part horror, part (unintentional?) comedy, it oozes with late-eighties cool and is so much fun to watch despite being pretty camp in 2016 — most things are made better with Kiefer Sutherland (even MGSV), and he pulls out the stops here.

Bonnie and Clyde

Bonnie and Clyde Still

“This here’s Miss Bonnie Parker. I’m Clyde Barrow. We rob banks.”

Romantic in a crazy kind of way, the film of the notorious robbers and killers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow inspired many lovers and so much art that it’s hard not to subconsciously let that colour the film, though it stands very well on it’s own fifty years later.

Toy Story

Toy Story Still

“Too Infinity and Beyond!”

Still entertaining but not nearly as impressive as it was twenty years ago; it’s a classic one that’ll stay relevant forever but does have the tint of everyone involved figuring the new medium out.

★★★★✩

Stoker

Stoker Still

“Sometimes you need to do something bad to stop you from doing something worse.”

Never quite as scary as I was expecting from the trailers, it’s more unnerving and creepy, and builds a great atmosphere from the get-go — beautifully shot, it’s style-over-substance, but still a delight.

Top Gun

Top Gun Still

“Tower, this is Ghost Rider requesting a flyby.”

Overrated but enjoyable 80s action film and surprising oscar winner; the aerial combat is shot incredibly well, more thrilling than anything in transformers, but ultimately the story is lacking and Cruise‘s charm just doesn’t hold up as well here as more modern fare.
